Just played a poker session, down about a buyin and a half (thanks to those who cracked AA with KQ and J5s respectively). But I had to post some hand history highlights. Firstly, what sets the guy off. Notice the expert preflop limp-call with 32s:

Than the sound of cpu fan grinding against heatsink. Not only does it sound awful, it also means buying a new cooling setup, and to be on the safe side using an older slower computer that doesn't have all my music on it (while I do have that on an external HD, it's formatted as NTFS so, iirc, win98 can't read it). At least it made itself known to me noisily, rather than just dying and allowing my mobo to melt.

As an aside, the lack of great april fools' gags everywhere is very disappointing

[edit - after god knows how much poking and shoving, because of socket A mobos having the most ridiculous system of attaching heatsinks, and fearing that i'd bricked the system at least three times, it seems to have worked, thank god]

Someone drew my attention to this blog:

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.
com/

It's hilarious, and somewhat true. Of course, I feel the need to point out that I could probably post this on the BBS and see nothing happen, but if I posted a link to a similar blog about how certain people stereotypically like fried chicken and watermelon, I'd probably get banned.

Would also like to comment at this point that it really sucks that Europe doesn't have Brawl yet.

On the other site I moderate, linking to videos here, regardless of content, is deemed offensive. How about that?

Aside: Pigeon Detectives album, 8/10, quality

The Hoosiers - The Trick To Life (2007), 6/10
Kanye West - Graduation (2007), 7/10
The Wombats - A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation (2007), 7/10
Inaura - One Million Smiles (1996), 8/10
Cardiacs and Affectionate Friends (2001), 6/10
Charlie's Angels - Greatest Hits Vol 1 (unknown, doesn't say on sleeve), 5/10
Organ Radio - 1 (1997, 7), 2 (1997, 6), 12 (2000, 6), 13 (2000, 6), 15 (2001, 7), 16 (2001, 8)
Herzoga/To The Bones - Things To Say/Tycho split single w/lots of bonus tracks (2007), 7/10

Sadly my HD is now pretty much full so I can't rip half of these without buying a new one, in two minds whether to go internal or external at the moment.

Wow. Un-fucking-believable. Funny how "the greatest QB ever" looks like a deer in headlights when his o-line gets pwned. Best SB ever imo, at least since I've been watching (roughly XXIX, 49ers > Chargers). Some comments:

- Belichick's such a cock for leaving the field after they mess up the timing right at the end, sack him IMO
- Coughlin can just retire now to let Spagnuolo have the Giants gig
- The Sling is quite possibly the single most awesome non-scoring play ever, better than McNair - Dyson on the one more yard drive in the Rams - Titans SB imo
- Manning getting MVP for basically two drives in the fourth quarter is obviously expected but somewhat ridiculous considering it should have gone to the Giants' d-line
- Sucks to be Tiki Barber right now

Apparently you lot across the pond are choosing who's going to be your new overlord this year. Do go out and make yourself heard if you're eligible to do so (ideally for anyone but Clinton). I'll likely be up for a bit on Tuesday, hopefully to see Obama pwn.

Have recently got an awful lot of CD's, at some point I'll review a few of them but I'm still working my way through many of them.

Also, lol @ the Globe:

Super Bowl, Super Tuesday, music, etc

And I quickly discovered how an awful lot of the place is somewhat slack, and needs to be refined. I mean seriously, the NG mag has been a work in progress for what seems forever, and it still has a nice big option to check on in the main navbar. Most anticipated alpha is Madness Combat 6? Last I'd checked Krinkels had released the seventh (which is the third most anticipated alpha, nicely sandwiching Waterlollies which will surely appear some time soon... oh wait, it's number one of all time). Pretty much everything else is 18 months to a couple of years or more out of date (in fact greg's interview with fabulous999 of Beebo fame is still on the most recent, from roughly the time I was first moderated).

What's worse is that they have so many collections nowadays that you can't find what you're looking for. Love them or hate them, the Clock Crew are essentially a huge part of Newgrounds history (and whoever is on Wikipedia saying they're not can fuck off and die), but I couldn't see where their collection page is (but could find collections about file sharing networks that were dead from before the CC was even around, Mikey, a fad that was briefly interesting about six years ago but has been dead since then, and the Wazzup parodies). If it wasn't for ingenuity of deleting a random collections' name from the URL and replacing it with clockcrew, or the fact that I know that 28240 will never die, I wouldn't know to look in the Newgrounds page, as more or less everything can be related to that. I mean, for fuck's sake, they've been relegated to the same level as the Glock Group and the N00b Nation. Or worse, an art forum collabs section, which, with no disrespect to them, has barely been going long enough for people to recognise their forum exists at all.

Oh well, I'm in no position to give them pointers as to what to do, nor do I know what they're doing. So I'll forget it. Happy new year everyone.

[edit - I was meaning to mention that an interview that I gave relating to GameFAQs, a site where my moderating is still appreciated and is not cut off without any reason given, is available to view on the wiki about that site, at http://wikifaqs.net/index.php?title=Jo nthomson]

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/83 6073

Given events of the last two months, and the status of half the people posting in that topic, I find this absolutely fucking hilarious, yet not surprising in the slightest.

Also, Kirk Shepherd is overpriced to win the world title. He's +210, or 3.1, or 21/10 to win, which is insane. He's backable for profit up to +150, 2.5 or 6/4, whatever odds format you use. I've been destroying the bookies during this tournament, cash in while you can. For a more sure thing, wait until they open a handicap (i.e. Shepherd plus, say, 2.5 sets) market and hammer that.

Ah, the post-Christmas lethargy. Nothing much to do except drink fuckloads of booze, watch darts (fuck you Taylor for not losing close matches three times now, I really hope Mardle takes you to pwntown) and sleep. And eat turkey leftovers. But, yeah, stuff. What I thought I'd do (was going to make a longish politics post yesterday but declined to do so as I was too pissed) was go through my playlist and pick out 100 tracks that kind of define my life and that I think you ought to listen to.
