So I tried navigating around Newgrounds...

Posted by jonthomson - January 2nd, 2008

And I quickly discovered how an awful lot of the place is somewhat slack, and needs to be refined. I mean seriously, the NG mag has been a work in progress for what seems forever, and it still has a nice big option to check on in the main navbar. Most anticipated alpha is Madness Combat 6? Last I'd checked Krinkels had released the seventh (which is the third most anticipated alpha, nicely sandwiching Waterlollies which will surely appear some time soon... oh wait, it's number one of all time). Pretty much everything else is 18 months to a couple of years or more out of date (in fact greg's interview with fabulous999 of Beebo fame is still on the most recent, from roughly the time I was first moderated).

What's worse is that they have so many collections nowadays that you can't find what you're looking for. Love them or hate them, the Clock Crew are essentially a huge part of Newgrounds history (and whoever is on Wikipedia saying they're not can fuck off and die), but I couldn't see where their collection page is (but could find collections about file sharing networks that were dead from before the CC was even around, Mikey, a fad that was briefly interesting about six years ago but has been dead since then, and the Wazzup parodies). If it wasn't for ingenuity of deleting a random collections' name from the URL and replacing it with clockcrew, or the fact that I know that 28240 will never die, I wouldn't know to look in the Newgrounds page, as more or less everything can be related to that. I mean, for fuck's sake, they've been relegated to the same level as the Glock Group and the N00b Nation. Or worse, an art forum collabs section, which, with no disrespect to them, has barely been going long enough for people to recognise their forum exists at all.

Oh well, I'm in no position to give them pointers as to what to do, nor do I know what they're doing. So I'll forget it. Happy new year everyone.

[edit - I was meaning to mention that an interview that I gave relating to GameFAQs, a site where my moderating is still appreciated and is not cut off without any reason given, is available to view on the wiki about that site, at http://wikifaqs.net/index.php?title=Jo nthomson]
