jonthomson's News

Didn't want to post so soon after posting a news post, but this warranted it, please check the previous post as it's much more interesting

Not entirely sure what inspired this (I'd guess a ban, but the guy that gave him a 30 left the username in the ban, so w/e), but I really think that some people need to think about best to flame people. This is an example of the "falcon punch" school of flaming - if you don't see it coming, it's really quite effective, but everyone does, it got old before the OP was out of diapers, isn't the slightest bit interesting or original and shows a complete lack of effort. I seriously wonder why people like this bother to breathe in and out, let alone try to send PM's and expect anything else apart from ridicule.

Addendum: I'm mildly surprised he could spell "you're"

+$780 from STT's
+$1800 from donkaments
+$170 from rakeback/miscellaneous bonii

Spent:

-$800 on mod meat 08 flights
-$420 on Wii+TP (yes, we get raped on prices here, I know)
-$300 on 22" widescreen LCD monitor

I'm also one of the top 50 low limit STT players on Full Tilt, apparently. Go me.

More importantly, I have a job interview on Friday which, if landed, will give me pretty much everything I want in terms of work, i.e. location, hours, money, responsibility. Let me land this one time please god or I will incinerate something in some kind of grease fire. ONE TIME.

Just got back from town now with one. Zelda had better kick as much massive ass as everyone says it does. Will likely buy a classic controller at some point and download Super Metroid (LDO) and Mario 64, I missed that generation of Nintendo's hardware and never played it.

Also cocks.

Check out my terrible flash that I uploaded. Be sure to check the front page for the best of what's been submitted, rather than trying to scythe through the portal manually, and check out the CC history page if you don't get all this stuff. Some older clock stuff that you need to check out (aside from B, ldo) includes The Void (by Blue), Sonne (by Avocado), and Weaksauce's True North.

Also, vote 5!

Bastard isn't supposed to wake up with KK when I shove 64cc on a 565J two club board

DONKAMENTS ARE FUCKING RIGGED

Have been pretty busy of late. Basically I'm playing a lot of poker of recent (having a go at the FTP leaderboard, currently top 50 in the low-limit STT table - over 300 STT's so far in August), and have been spending more time on gamefaqs over the past week or two. Will likely be over there more than here over the next couple of months while the contest is on, the BBS is pretty sucky right now. I'll likely be on for a fair bit during clock day though, as the gazillions of save points are too tempting to miss. Was going to quickly knock up some crap but I'd have to download the flash trial on this computer and I couldn't be arsed.

Also spending time looking for work and doing some poker writing.

As many of you may or may not know, I wield mod powers over there as well, and the contest board is basically my "home" board. Anyway, the nominations for the annual whinefest opened up last night, so if you've got an account there, go to http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/feedb ack/contest_nominate_cb6.php and nominate Jigglypuff, CATS, Gordon Freeman and Dan Hibiki. For great justice.

Seeing how at the last check the poker club was basically dead, there's not likely enough demand to get it started again, but likely plenty of people who play the game on a regular or occasional basis. So, if you've got any questions, hands you want pointers on, or anything poker related, shove them here in a comment and I'll see what I can do. All I ask is if you're posting a hand, give as many details as you have - an online hand really just needs reads and tournament status (if relevant - basically runners, left, in rebuy period, near bubble or pay jump, on final table, etc), anything else needs effective stacks, position, action, everything else. It seems like a lot, but if you miss out a lot of this kind of things you'll likely end up with an "it depends" answer.

The image shows why I'm so good.

It's not exactly unknown that I'm a huge Super Metroid mark, and as such with not having much to do over the past couple of weeks since being back from the US, I've been speedrunning it like crazy to try to get a respectable time. I've got it down to 01:20, and I'm a quarter of a way through another run having trimmed a minute off up to that point. But I'd ideally like to do under an hour, and taking a minute off here and there isn't going to hack it. So, firstly:

If you're running a SNES emulator through a keyboard (or anything that has a lot of simultaneous key inputs), what do you map the buttons to? Right now I'm using the standard arrow keys for movement and the ins-pgdn block of six keys for the six fire buttons, but it causes havok with the controls (namely I can't shinespark when running to the right and firing is restricted in some directions). I've never really used a WASD keyset for anything movement-wise (i.e. I don't play FPS's on the PC) so don't want to try that for movement, although I could map dash to space (and continually have thumb on it LDO) and use some setup there. Basically I'm looking for a setup that doesn't cause conflicts due to physical limitations of the keyboard. Tempted to just buy a joypad, but meh.

Secondly, I'm looking to refine the route that I use, so if anyone's got any obvious pointers on the following it'd be useful - potential modifications I'll point out as and when I start trying out mockballing which I can't do now:

Crateria surface - old Tourain shaft - morph ball room - first missiles - extra missiles in room with e-tank in ceiling - up shaft - bomb room/Torizo fight - e-tank - Brinstar main street - (early super missiles/reserve tank, three missiles if I can mockball) charge beam - Spore Spawn (can be skipped if I have supers early) - Brinstar red shaft - spazer - Kraid - Norfair main street - (ice beam early if I can mockball) - hi jump boots - bubble room via top right door in main shaft - wave beam via wall jump in bubble room - speed booster - bubble room - save

Back door to Crocomire - e-tank in his room - power bombs - grappling beam - Norfair main street via green gate room - ice beam if we didn't get it earlier - Brinstar red shaft - Crateria behind ship - Wrecked Ship - Phantoon - one set of missiles, supers in ship - gravity suit - return to ship - save

Crateria gauntlet - Brinstar main street - early super missile room if we didn't do that on first Brinstar run - e-tanks behind charge beam, in sidehopper room behind yellow door, near morph ball area - n00b tube - Maridia - either save below n00b tube or head straight for save point two rooms before Botwoon - save

Botwoon - Draygon, stopping only for e-tank en route - plasma beam - back out the way we came ignoring everything - Norfair main street - save in room at bottom of shaft

Stop for nothing on way to Ridley except screw attack/Golden Torizo fight - kill Ridley - out via Norfair main street and large Maridia grappling room. Save at ship, kill Mother Brain, finish game.

tl;dr, yes
